10 Essential WordPress SEO Plugins

Wordpress Plugin blow the face of bystander

Which WordPress SEO plugins get the best results?

I shouldnโ€™t be giving you this information. As Spider Manโ€™s uncle said, โ€œWith great power comes great responsibilityโ€. If you donโ€™t know what youโ€™re doing, youโ€™ll hurt somebody. Keep that in mind if you choose to install the following plugins on your WordPress website.

Make the wrong move around one of these bad boys and youโ€™ll be peeling your face off the floor.

These super-powerful plugins turn your website into search engine candy. When used properly you can boost your websiteโ€™s position in search results related to your content.

WordPress SEO Plugins

Iโ€™ve used a lot of WordPress SEO plugins. Of all plugins Iโ€™ve tested, these are the 10ย  that were the easiest to use and got the best results. (These recommendations are based on my experience at the time I wrote this post).

  1. All In One SEO[1] : Automatically generate search engine friendly page titles and much more. Download All In One SEO[2]
  2. Google XML Sitemaps[3] : Generates a XML-Sitemap[4] compliant sitemap of your website. This format is supported by Ask.com, Google, YAHOO and MSN Search. Download Google XML Sitemap[5]
  3. Redirection[6] : Allows you to manage 301 redirections, keep track of 404 errors, and generally tidy up any loose ends your site may have. A nice interface for those who donโ€™t want to mess with a .htaccess file. Download Redirection[7]
  4. SEO Friendly Images[8] : Automatically adds ALT and TITLE text to all of your images. This helps your site conform to W3C standards and adds valuable keyword text for search engines to gobble up. Download SEO Friendly Images[9]
  5. Global Translator[10] : Automatically translates your website into 48 languages. Download Global Translator[11]
  6. SEO Smart Links[12] : Automatically build internal links on your website by linking keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog. Download SEO Smart Links[13]
  7. W3 Total Cache[14] WP Super Cache[15]: Google considers the speed of your website to determine where you rank in search results. This plugin makes your website 10 times faster according to the plugin author. Download W3 Total Cache[14] Download WP Super Cache[16]
  8. Google Analyticator[17] : Google Analytics right in your WordPress dashboard. Download Google Analyticator[18]
  9. WP to Twitter[19] : Google includes Twitter activity in search results. Automatically post new articles to your Twitter account with this plugin. Download WP To Twitter[20]
  10. Yet Another Related Posts plugin (YARPP)[21] : Automatically generate a list of related posts. This helps build more internal links and increase page views. Download YARPP[22]

Youโ€™ve got some face juice on the ground there.

Rightโ€ฆ there.

I originally used WP Super Cache myself, until I saw that Total Cache included a lot of other functionality like minifying CSS & Javascript.

YARPP is definitely my favortie plugin from this list. I never develop a site without using this unless the client for some strange reason doesn't want/need related posts. As for caching, I've always used WP Super Cache. I'd be interested in comparing that to Total cache, however.

After further research I'm going to switch back to WP Super Cache until W3 Total Cache reaches version 1.0

    What's the reason for this?

The reason I'm switching back is because I kept having errors in my admin because I hadn't taken the time to COMPLETELY tweak all the options available with Total Cache. So I decided, for the sake of convenience, to use Super Cache since you basically install it, click enable and you're good to go. Total Cache will be awesome when its been developed a bit more.
