“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6 NIV
Change your private world. Then God can use you to change the public world. It starts with the choice to take back your time.
Constant cheap fun takes up so much of our time in America. How much of your free time is stolen by TV, video games, movies, the internet, or just self-entertainment in general.
What would happen if you used your free-time to move towards God?
What if you sat in silence and waited on the voice of God instead of talking to your friend about the latest whatever?
What if you spent an hour worshiping in God’s presence before you went to bed, instead of playing Guitar Hero?
What if you decided to fight (pray and prophesy) for that person in your class who cuts themselves instead of watching American Idol?
What if you decided to fight for that girl who sleeps around instead of gossiping about her?
Prisoners of War
There are people around you everyday who are prisoners of our enemy, the devil. God wants to use you to set them free. Jesus conquered sin so that we could be filled with the Holy Spirit. With God literally living inside of us, we are to attack the prison and free the captives. All they need is to hear the truth and believe it. Some have been tortured with sickness, disease, deformities, addictions and demons. God frees them from all that too.
Our job is to give what we’ve been given. We’ve been given the same Holy Spirit that Jesus was given. Through the Holy Spirit He spoke truth, healed the sick, cast out demons, and raised the dead. God’s waiting for someone to sacrifice their own selfishness so that He can fight through them!
How can we hold back the only power that can change the world?
Without even knowing it many of us our helping Satan keep people in bondage. How? Being passive. Ignoring God’s voice when He tells us to talk to, or pray for, someone allows them to stay bound. The more obvious way to help the devil is to use your words to confirm what he tells them. Gossiping, spreading rumors, putting them down, making fun them, or AGREEING with people who are doing these things all helps the devil keep them in prison. Christians aren’t even supposed to be doing these things in the first place, but sadly, it’s all over us.
Both passive and active traitors have one thing in common…sin. Sin in our lives affects those around us. Like it or not, its the truth. We can’t fight on both sides of the war at the same time. We become better weapons in God’s hands the more we let go of our sinful nature. God demands perfection. Obviously, we aren’t perfect. That’s why Jesus’ blood was so important. He paid for us to be perfect in God’s eyes. So, our imperfection is covered by His blood. All that we have to do is believe. One day we will get new sinless bodies. Until then, we are at war with our own flesh. But it’s worth the fight. Whatever sinful desire you sacrifice, God totally makes up for in the spirit. There are awesome things God wants to do through us. Everything Jesus did and more! We shouldn’t let some worthless sin habit keep us from the greatest adventure of our lives.
Run towards God and He will purify you.
“Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. 29 For our God is a devouring fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29 (New Living Translation)
Run towards the fire.
